NUST runs its undergraduate programmes from schools on the H-12 campus in Islamabad and from colleges in Rawalpindi, Risalpur, Karachi and Quetta. The same NET and the same merit list cover all of them, but the school you land in decides your city, your hostel rules and even the month your classes start.
Key facts
- Most schools sit on the H-12 campus, Islamabad
- College of E&ME and MCS are in Rawalpindi
- MCE and CAE are in Risalpur
- PNEC is in Karachi, NUST Balochistan Campus is in Quetta
- For the 2026 intake, MCS classes start in October and CAE in November. Everyone else starts in September

Why the campus matters before you apply
When you fill the NUST form you rank programmes, and a programme at NUST is a degree at a specific school. "Electrical Engineering at SEECS" and "Electrical Engineering at PNEC" are separate preferences. If you rank PNEC because the merit looks friendlier and then discover you can't live in Karachi, you have made a mess of your own preference list.
So learn the map first. It takes ten minutes.
H-12 campus, Islamabad
This is the main campus and most people mean this when they say NUST. These are the schools on it that admit undergraduates through NET, taken from NUST's official programme list:
| School | Short name | Undergraduate programmes |
|---|---|---|
| School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science | SEECS | Electrical, Computer and Software Engineering, BS CS, BS Data Science, BS AI |
| School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering | SMME | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, BS Robotics and AI (from Fall 2027) |
| School of Civil and Environmental Engineering | SCEE | Civil, Environmental and Geoinformatics Engineering, BS Environmental Science |
| School of Chemical and Materials Engineering | SCME | Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering |
| US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy | USPCAS-E | Energy Engineering |
| School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences | SINES | BS Bioinformatics |
| NUST Business School | NBS | BBA, BS Accounting and Finance, BS Tourism and Hospitality Management |
| School of Social Sciences and Humanities | S3H | BS Economics, Mass Communication, Psychology, Liberal Arts and Humanities |
| Jinnah School of Public Policy and Leadership | JSPPL | Bachelor of Public Administration |
| NUST Law School | NLS | LLB |
| Centre for International Peace and Stability | CIPS | BS International Relations (from Fall 2027) |
| School of Art, Design and Architecture | SADA | B Architecture, B Industrial Design |
| School of Natural Sciences | SNS | BS Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences | ASAB | BS Biotechnology, Agriculture, Food Science and Technology |
Two notes. NICE, the NUST Institute of Civil Engineering, is one of the institutes inside SCEE, so a BE Civil admission at H-12 means SCEE. And NUST's institutions page also lists the NUST School of Health Sciences, but MBBS does not appear on the undergraduate programme list and no NET paper covers it.
The colleges outside Islamabad
These are full NUST constituent colleges. Your degree says NUST. What changes is the city, the culture and, at the military colleges, the feel of daily life.
| College | City | Undergraduate programmes |
|---|---|---|
| College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (CoEME) | Rawalpindi | Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics and Computer Engineering, BS Robotics and AI (from Fall 2027) |
| Military College of Signals (MCS) | Rawalpindi | Electrical and Software Engineering, BE Information Security |
| Military College of Engineering (MCE) | Risalpur | Civil Engineering |
| College of Aeronautical Engineering (CAE) | Risalpur | Aerospace and Avionics Engineering |
| Pakistan Navy Engineering College (PNEC) | Karachi | Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, BS Computer Science |
| NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC) | Quetta | Civil Engineering, BS Computer Science, BS AI |
A few details from the colleges' own sites. MCE was set up at Risalpur in 1952 and its programmes became part of NUST in 1995. CoEME traces back to the EME School founded at Quetta in 1957. CAE carries one hard restriction: foreign nationals cannot apply for its Aerospace and Avionics programmes.
Start dates differ by college
NUST publishes one commencement table each year. For the 2026 intake it read:
| Schools | Classes start |
|---|---|
| SCEE, SMME, SCME, SEECS, PNEC, MCE, CoEME, NBC | September 2026 |
| NBS, S3H, SADA, SNS, ASAB | September 2026 |
| MCS | October 2026 |
| CAE | November 2026 |
This matters if you are juggling an offer from another university. A CAE seat leaves you waiting two months longer than a SEECS seat.
Hostels are campus by campus
The central NUST hostel policy covers the Islamabad campus only. It allots rooms to outstation students who join a school at H-12, and it treats Islamabad and Rawalpindi residents as ineligible. The colleges run their own arrangements. College of E&ME, for example, allots its limited hostel places first come, first served and excludes students from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Wah and Taxila. The full rules and charges are in the NUST hostel guide.
How to use this when you rank preferences
My advice:
- Decide which cities you would move to. Cross out the rest now, before merit day pressure.
- For each programme you want, write down every school that offers it. Electrical Engineering alone sits at SEECS, CoEME, PNEC and MCS.
- Rank by what you want to study first, then by school. A programme you like at CoEME beats one you don't care about at H-12.
- Remember that NUST lets you edit preferences for only one to two days after merit generation, within each discipline. Have your list ready before then.
Your NET score drives all of this, because NET carries 75% of the aggregate. Put your marks into the aggregate calculator to see where you stand.
The programme guides go school by school: computer science, electrical, mechanical and civil.
FAQ
How many campuses does NUST have?
For undergraduate admissions, NUST's programme list names schools in five cities: Islamabad (H-12), Rawalpindi, Risalpur, Karachi and Quetta. Most schools sit on the H-12 campus.
Is a degree from CEME or MCS a NUST degree?
Yes. CoEME, MCS, MCE, CAE and PNEC are constituent colleges of NUST, and their programmes appear on NUST's own undergraduate programme list.
Is NICE a separate campus?
No. NICE is one of the institutes within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering on the H-12 campus.
Do I need a different NET for each campus?
No. One NET paper covers every school that offers your programme. You choose schools as preferences on the application form.
