NET test day checklist: what to bring and what to expect

SailToNUSTCreator of the site

Contents8 sections

On NET day you need two things: your printed admit card and one original photo ID, such as your CNIC, passport, Family Registration Certificate, or Matric or FSc certificate with your photograph. NUST keeps the admit card at the centre. Everything else on this page is about getting to the right gate on time and not losing marks to the interface.

Key facts

  • Bring the printed admit card and one original photo ID
  • The admit card is retained at the test centre
  • CBNET sessions: 0900 to 1200 and 1400 to 1700
  • Islamabad venue: NUST Exam Hall, Gate-4, H-12
  • Miss your session and NUST does not normally give another

The checklist

ItemWhy
Printed admit cardNUST requires it at the centre and keeps it for verification
One original photo IDCNIC, passport, Family Registration Certificate, or Matric/FSc certificate with your photo
Your roll number, written down separatelyUseful if anything goes wrong with the printout
Route and travel time to the venueSee the venue section below
Water and something to eat before or afterA three-hour paper is long

Photocopies don't count for the ID. NUST's procedure page asks for "any Original document". If your CNIC is still being processed, carry your passport, or your Matric or FSc certificate with your photograph.

Print two copies of the admit card. NUST keeps one, and a spare costs you nothing.

What NUST does not publish

You will find long lists online of what is banned in NET: calculators, phones, smart watches, geometry boxes. We checked NUST's admissions pages, FAQ and brochure in October 2026. None of them list prohibited items for NET or a reporting time.

That does not mean you can bring your phone. It means the rules are on your admit card and in the instructions NUST sends with it, not on the public website. Read the admit card front and back the night before. Follow it over anything you read online, this page included.

Common sense covers the rest. NET is a 200-question test of mental arithmetic and recall. Plan on having no calculator, and practise that way.

Getting to the venue

Islamabad (CBNET). NUST Exam Hall, entered through Gate-4 of the main campus in Sector H-12. NUST's guide map says it is opposite the Srinagar / Kashmir Highway, about 10 km from IJP Road (Mandi Morr) and 7 km from Golra Morr on Peshawar Road. Go through Gate-4, not the main gate.

Quetta (CBNET). NUST Balochistan Campus.

Karachi and Gilgit (PBNET). NUST says the venue is printed on the admit card. Our records for the NET-2026 cycle list DHA City Campus in Karachi and APS Jutial in Gilgit, but go by your card.

If you are travelling from another city, arrive the day before. A morning CBNET session starts at 0900, and an overnight bus from Lahore leaves no margin for a breakdown.

If you miss your session

NUST's FAQ is strict. CBNET runs in two sessions a day on different days, and PBNET runs on one day. If you miss your session, NUST does not give you another chance. In an extreme emergency it may consider a request case by case, depending on space.

The fee does not carry over either. It is valid only for the series you paid for. So a missed session usually means re-registering in the next series and paying again.

Check your portal and email in the last week as well. In 2026 NUST postponed some tests and rescheduled them for 29 April to 3 May, with new admit cards to download from candidates' accounts.

What the CBNET room asks of you

The computer-based test runs on NUST's own client. If you have only practised on modern quiz apps, four things will catch you:

  • Selecting an option saves nothing. You must press SAVE on every answer.
  • You can't flag an empty question. Review is disabled until an answer is saved.
  • There is no question grid. Only Next, Prev, First and Last.
  • One clock, counted in whole minutes. No per-section timer.

The SAVE step is where answers get lost. A candidate picks an option, clicks Next, and the question stays blank. Because NET has no negative marking, every blank is a mark you gave away.

What the PBNET hall asks of you

PBNET is a printed booklet and a separate answer sheet. You can see every question and go in any order. The cost is transfer time: every answer has to be bubbled by hand inside the same 180 minutes. Practise by printing a full-length paper and filling a separate sheet under the clock.

NUST allows re-checking for the paper-based test only. You apply within 5 days of the result with a Rs. 500 bank draft or pay order, and NUST checks for unmarked answers and totalling errors.

The night before and the morning of

  • Print the admit card, and pack it with your ID in one envelope.
  • Read the instructions on the admit card.
  • Check the route and leave an hour spare for traffic.
  • Sleep. A tired brain loses more marks than one extra hour of revision gains.
  • Eat before a morning session. You will not eat again until noon.

For the week before, follow the last week before NET plan. Results come in about 24 hours for CBNET. The result guide covers what happens next.
