Which books should you use for NET?

Contents6 sections

Start with your FSc (HSSC) textbooks, because NUST says NET is compiled from the textbooks prescribed for HSSC. Then add one MCQ book for the subjects on your paper, such as KIPS's FUNG Prep books (Rs 1,200 each on Daraz), the OETP NET guidebook (Rs 1,500 on oetp.pk) or Genius Series Physics. One MCQ book finished properly beats three started.

No book is official. NUST states that it "neither conducts entry test related preparatory activities itself nor provides material in electronic or printed format for guidance of applicants." Every NET book on the market is a publisher's or academy's reading of the same public syllabus.

Key facts

  • NUST: NET is compiled from textbooks prescribed for HSSC courses, Part-1 and Part-2
  • NUST publishes no NET book and endorses none
  • NET-Engineering: Mathematics 50%, Physics 30%, English 20%
  • English follows the SAT pattern, which FSc English books don't teach
  • Books students name for NET: KIPS FUNG Prep, OETP, Genius Series
  • KIPS Math FUNG Prep and Physics FUNG Prep: Rs 1,200 each on Daraz, 20 October 2026
  • OETP NET Engineering and Computer Science guidebook: Rs 1,500 on oetp.pk, Rs 1,199 on cbpbook.com
  • Genius Series Physics 3000+ MCQs: Rs 1,400 on bookstall.xyz

Step 1: your FSc textbooks

NUST's own guidance points to the textbooks. Its salient features page says NET "is compiled from text books prescribed for HSSC courses" and tells candidates to consult the relevant textbooks of the various boards. Its FAQ says the test is based on SSC and HSSC level studies.

So the textbook is the syllabus. If a topic is in your Part-1 or Part-2 book, it can appear. If it isn't, it shouldn't.

Read the textbook chapter before you open an MCQ book for that chapter. MCQ books test you on the chapter. They rarely teach it. A student who skips the textbook ends up memorising answers to questions they don't understand, and NET's questions won't match the book's word for word.

Your board's book is fine. The chapter lists on the syllabus page follow the National Curriculum 2023 books. If your board uses older books, the topics are mostly the same with different chapter numbers. The syllabus post lists every chapter by subject and year.

Step 2: which subjects your paper needs

Buy books for your paper only.

PaperSubjects
NET-EngineeringMathematics 50%, Physics 30%, English 20%
NET-Applied SciencesBiology 50%, Chemistry 30%, English 20%
NET-Business & Social SciencesQuantitative Mathematics 50%, English 50%
NET-ArchitectureDesign Aptitude 50%, Mathematics 30%, English 20%
NET-Natural SciencesMathematics 50%, English 50%

An Engineering candidate doesn't need a Chemistry book. NET-Engineering has no Chemistry. Many combined entry-test books include it because ECAT does, so skip those pages. If you aren't sure of your paper, read which NET paper to take.

Step 3: one MCQ book

These are the books students name most often for NET. We list what each is, not a ranking. Prices are from the named seller on 20 October 2026, and they change.

  • KIPS FUNG Prep. KIPS sells its entry-test books under the FUNG name, with chapter-wise MCQs. On Daraz (seller M.T.J.), Math FUNG Prep, Physics FUNG Prep and English Skill Builder Prep cost Rs 1,200 each, and a Maths, Physics and English prep and practice set costs Rs 7,999. kipspublications.com lists a FUNG ENGG full set at Rs 7,000, marked "Coming Soon". The KIPS post covers KIPS's courses.
  • OETP. OETP publishes NET-specific editions: Engineering and Computer Science, Biosciences, and Business and Social Sciences. The editions are split by NET paper, so you buy only the one you sit. The Guidebook of NET Engineering and Computer Science costs Rs 1,500 on oetp.pk. cbpbook.com sells the 4th edition at Rs 1,199, down from Rs 1,800.
  • Genius Series. Students mention its Physics book. Genius Series Physics 3000+ MCQs costs Rs 1,400 on bookstall.xyz.

Pick one book per subject and finish it. Mark every question you get wrong and come back to it a week later. That second pass is where the book earns its price.

Step 4: English needs its own plan

NUST says NET's English follows the SAT pattern. FSc English books don't train that: vocabulary in context, analogies, sentence completion, grammar and usage. Use a NET or SAT-style English section from your MCQ book, and a word list you revise daily.

The English guide breaks down the section, and the vocabulary list gives you words to start with. English is 20% of NET-Engineering and 50% of the Business paper, so don't leave it for the last week.

Step 5: books don't replace full papers

A book teaches chapters. NET tests 200 questions in 180 minutes, mixed across subjects, with 54 seconds a question. Chapter practice doesn't train that pace or the stamina for the third hour.

Once you have covered most chapters, switch part of your week to full-length papers. Use the subject guides to decide what to revisit:

Recall papers, the questions students remember after each series, are useful too. Read what they are and how to treat them before you rely on one.

FAQ

Which is the best book for NUST NET?

No book is official, and no independent comparison of NET books exists. Start with your FSc textbooks, then pick one MCQ book for your paper's subjects, such as KIPS FUNG Prep, OETP or Genius Series, and finish it.

Are FSc textbooks enough for NET?

For concepts, yes, because NUST says NET is compiled from HSSC textbooks. You still need MCQ practice and timed full papers, and English needs SAT-style practice that FSc books don't give.

Do I need a Chemistry book for NET-Engineering?

No. NET-Engineering is Mathematics 50%, Physics 30% and English 20%. Chemistry is only on NET-Applied Sciences, at 30%.

How much do NET books cost?

As of 20 October 2026: KIPS Math FUNG Prep and Physics FUNG Prep are Rs 1,200 each on Daraz, the OETP NET Engineering guidebook is Rs 1,500 on oetp.pk, and Genius Series Physics is Rs 1,400 on bookstall.xyz. Your FSc textbooks cover the concepts.

Is the KIPS FUNG book enough for NET?

It covers chapter MCQs. Read each textbook chapter first, then use the book, and add full-length papers for pacing.

Which books should I use for NUST Business (NBS) NET?

The Business paper is Quantitative Mathematics 50% and English 50%. Use a quantitative maths book, such as OETP's Business and Social Sciences edition, plus a SAT-style English book.
