NUST offers three kinds of financial aid to undergraduates: need-based scholarships, merit-based financial assistance and interest-free loans. The one most new students need is the need-based scholarship. You apply for it through the NUST Financial Aid Application Form (NFAAF), and the deadline is the same as your NET application deadline. Miss that and you are out for the year.
Key facts
- Three types: need-based scholarships, merit-based assistance, interest-free loans
- NFAAF is due on the same date as the NET application
- Applying for aid has no effect on your admission decision
- Need-based awards can cover part or all of costs, for up to 4 years
- You must also apply for external scholarships such as PEEF, BEEF, SEEF or CMEEF

The deadline nobody reads
This is the mistake that costs families the most. NUST's own FAQ says the NFAAF due date is the same as the online admission application, and that aid applications are not accepted separately afterwards. So if you register for NET in Series-1 and plan to "sort out the scholarship after the result", you have already missed it for that application.
Do it the same week you register. Here is the order NUST gives:
- Register on the UG admissions portal and fill the admission form.
- In that form, say you want to apply for financial aid. The NFAAF tab only appears if you do.
- Open the "Need Based Financial Aid Application" tab and complete every section.
- Attach soft copies of the supporting documents, each under 250 KB.
- Tick the undertaking and submit. You should get a confirmation email. Print it.
Fill it with a parent next to you. NUST asks for exactly that, and providing false information leads to cancelled admission and recovery of dues.
Need-based scholarships
NUST says the programme exists to make sure students admitted on merit are not turned away for money. Aid comes as:
- Need-based scholarships covering partial or full academic costs, for part or all of the degree, up to 4 years for undergraduates
- Interest-free loans, including fee deferment and Ihsan Trust loans
- Paying fees in installments. This does not apply to admission or first-semester dues.
How NUST decides
The Financial Aid Office works out your family's Net Disposable Income, roughly income minus expenses. That is what NUST expects your family to contribute. Your financial need is the gap between academic costs and that figure. NUST lists the factors it weighs: parent or guardian status, number of dependents, number of dependents studying, assets, house ownership and monthly expenses.
A committee reviews each case and the decision is purely on need. NUST may also physically verify what you wrote, including a visit to your home or business or questions to neighbours, at any point during your degree.
Documents to collect now
The checklist builds itself from your answers, but expect most of these:
- Salary slips for the last three months, or a pension book, or an income affidavit
- Income tax returns for every earning member
- Bank statements for the last 12 months, for every account in the family's names
- Last month's electricity, gas, phone and water bills
- Property and vehicle documents
- Fee receipts for siblings
- CNIC or B-Form for you and your parents, and your domicile
- Photos of your house, outside and inside
Documents must be attested by a government officer of BPS-17 or above. If a parent has no job or runs a business, NUST wants an income declaration on stamp paper worth more than Rs 100, attested by a Union Councillor and two witnesses, one of them a BPS-17 or higher officer.
Missing something? NUST lets you attach a signed letter explaining why and when you will provide it.
When you hear back
Provisionally selected candidates see the aid decision in the provisional admission offer letter, which NUST says arrives in July or August. To keep the scholarship you must pay the admission dues. Once you have paid, the scholarship can move with you if you upgrade to another programme. If you don't pay, the offer is cancelled and the slot goes to someone in the next list.
Merit-based financial assistance
This one is for students already at NUST. A limited number of undergraduates in top positions with a semester GPA of 3.5 or above get a monthly award:
| Semester GPA | Monthly amount (PKR) |
|---|---|
| 3.50 to 3.75 | 2,000 |
| 3.76 to 3.89 | 2,500 |
| 3.90 to 4.00 | 3,000 |
NUST marks these amounts "or as revised". They are small next to the fee, so treat them as a reward, not a funding plan.
Interest-free loans
Ihsan Trust. NUST Trust Fund works with Ihsan Trust, a charitable trust set up by Meezan Bank, to offer Shariah-compliant interest-free loans to students who can't afford tuition. You apply through the NUST Trust Fund office at H-12. The form is on the Ihsan Trust website.
NUST also lists other sources you can apply to on your own: HEC, the Fazaia Educational Welfare Scheme, the Mazhar Memorial Scholarship Loan and Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal. If you receive any award, you must tell your head of institution in writing.
Provincial scholarships: PEEF
NUST's PEEF page (marked 2024-25) sets the undergraduate rules: Punjab domicile, at least 60% in Intermediate, monthly household income of Rs 60,000 or less, and no other scholarship that year. Fall-entry students apply in their first semester only, through their school. Check PEEF's current terms before relying on these, since the page is from an earlier cycle.
If your situation changes later
NUST accepts mid-degree applications only when finances change sharply, for example a parent's death, retirement or job loss. You apply through your school on the NUST Need Based Scholarship form. For hostel costs, NUST's hostel policy lets students who can't afford them apply through the University Advancement Office once enrolled.
Know the bill before you apply. The fee structure guide has the 2026-27 numbers and the hostel guide has accommodation charges.
FAQ
Does applying for NUST financial aid affect my admission?
No. NUST's FAQ says the financial aid application has no effect on the admission decision.
When is the last date for the NUST need-based scholarship form?
The same date as your online NET admission application. NUST does not accept the NFAAF separately after that.
Does NUST give full scholarships?
Need-based scholarships can cover partial or full academic costs for part or all of the degree, up to 4 years for undergraduates. The amount depends on assessed need.
Can I get a NUST scholarship on NET marks?
NUST's undergraduate scholarship pages list no award based on NET score. Need-based aid is judged on family finances, and merit assistance is paid on semester GPA once you are enrolled.
