B Architecture and B Industrial Design at NUST are taught at SADA in Islamabad, and you get in through NET-Architecture: Design Aptitude 50%, Mathematics 30%, English 20%. You need Mathematics and Physics in both SSC and HSSC, with at least 60% in each.
Key facts
- School: SADA, H-12 campus, Islamabad
- Paper: NET-Architecture, Design Aptitude 50%, Mathematics 30%, English 20%
- SSC and HSSC must both include Mathematics and Physics, 60% minimum
- B Architecture runs 5 years of tuition. B Industrial Design runs 4
- Tuition 2026-27: Rs 302,950 per semester

The two programmes
SADA, the School of Art, Design and Architecture, took its first B Architecture batch in 2010 and added B Industrial Design in 2013, according to its own site. Both programmes are studio-based. Expect long hours on drawings and models, not lectures and MCQs.
| B Architecture | B Industrial Design | |
|---|---|---|
| School | SADA, Islamabad | SADA, Islamabad |
| NET paper | NET-Architecture | NET-Architecture |
| Tuition semesters | 10 (5 years) | 8 (4 years) |
NUST's fee FAQ confirms that B Architecture students pay tuition for five years, against four for other undergraduate degrees.
Who is eligible
The subject rule is narrow. NUST requires Mathematics and Physics as two compulsory subjects in both SSC and HSSC. So:
- Pre-Engineering: eligible.
- ICS (Maths, Physics, Computer Science): eligible.
- Pre-Medical: not on NUST's list for B Arch or B Industrial Design, because there is no Mathematics. Pre-Medical with additional Maths qualifies for "all programmes" under NUST's qualification table.
- A-Level: eligible if your IBCC equivalence includes Mathematics and Physics at both O and A Level.
The 60% floor in both SSC and HSSC applies as everywhere else.
The paper: NET-Architecture
NUST publishes the weights: Design Aptitude 50%, Mathematics 30%, English 20%. On a 200-question paper that is roughly 100, 60 and 40 questions. The split is derived, not published.
Notice where the weight sits:
- Design Aptitude is half the paper. It is also the part no FSc textbook covers.
- The Mathematics is the FSc maths you already study, at 30% instead of 50%. Keep it sharp, but it is not where this paper is won.
What the design aptitude section tests
SADA publishes official guidelines for the section. They list five areas:
| Area | What SADA lists under it |
|---|---|
| Design fundamentals and theory | Elements and principles of design, Gestalt principles, ratio and proportioning systems, design vocabulary, colour theory, patterns in nature, analysing compositions |
| Visual arts and techniques | Basic drawing and painting techniques, shapes and geometry, the human body in art, form-making (subtraction, addition, modelling, casting), properties of clay, wood, plaster and paper |
| Design history and context | Iconic artists and designers, movements such as Art Deco, Arts and Crafts, Bauhaus, minimalism, modernism and postmodernism, local crafts, Islamic art and architecture, man and environment |
| Problem-solving and visual communication | Non-verbal reasoning through diagrams and pictures, symbols and signage |
| Contemporary and emerging practice | Studio culture and the design process, renowned local artists, architects and designers, new materials, tools and technologies |
Read the full list on SADA's design aptitude NET guidelines page. It is the only official syllabus for this half of the paper.
How to prepare for design aptitude
SADA's guidelines list topics, not sample questions, so build your own practice from that list:
- Make a vocabulary sheet. Write one line each for the elements of design (line, shape, form, colour, texture, space) and the principles (balance, contrast, rhythm, proportion, emphasis, unity). Add the Gestalt principles. SADA asks for "fluency in use of design vocabulary", so you should be able to define each one in a sentence.
- Learn the movements by picture. For Bauhaus, Art Deco, modernism and the rest, know one building or object and its look. A name you can't picture is only half learned.
- Know Pakistani names. SADA asks for "renowned local artists, architects and designers" and "local crafts". Learn a handful from Pakistan, plus the main features of Mughal and wider Islamic architecture.
- Do non-verbal reasoning daily. Pattern series, mirror images, paper folding and figure rotation. These are quick marks once you have the eye.
- Sketch. Drawing practice helps you read proportion and form faster even in an MCQ format.
For the Mathematics 30%, the maths practice bank covers the FSc chapters. For English, start with vocabulary and analogies.
Fees
B Architecture and B Industrial Design use NUST's "Architecture, Social Sciences and Business Studies" fee column. For 2026-27 that is Rs 302,950 tuition per semester, Rs 5,000 miscellaneous per semester, Rs 35,000 admission processing fee and Rs 10,000 refundable security. Over ten semesters, B Arch tuition at that rate comes to Rs 3,029,500. That is our arithmetic, and NUST revises fees every year. More in the fee guide.
